All-Clad
All-Clad pans are keepsakes for life. They’re built to last, even if you use them hard, as pretty much any commercial kitchen can attest to. This cookware set the standard for high-quality stainless steel cookware that other newer brands seek to emulate today: The cooking surfaces heat evenly, and the pans are lightweight and easy to maneuver. If you don’t have the need or budget to outfit your entire kitchen with All-Clad saucepans, stockpots, and sauté pans, we suggest going for the skillet. Chris Morocco swears by his, which he described as “unkillable.”
Lodge cookware
Lodge is held as the industry standard for affordable cast-iron cookware. Most people know them for their cast-iron skillets, but the Lodge Dutch oven has been a popular choice for many people who are looking for an under-$100 alternative to brands like Le Creuset and Staub. Unlike their cast-iron pans, which Lodge forges in Tennessee, their affordable line of Dutch ovens is manufactured abroad. Some BA staffers have found that the enameled surfaces are prone to chipping, so treat this pan gently, and don’t expect it to last as long as their uncoated cast-iron, or an enameled Le Creuset. But, in terms of actual cooking performance, you’ll find very little difference between this model and its more expensive competitors. If you’re in search of a budget Dutch oven, Lodge is difficult to beat.
Le Creuset
If you are looking to splurge on the version that lasts forever, it’s available on sale, too. There’s not much we can we say about Le Creuset that you probably haven’t already heard. Their Dutch ovens will hold up to decades of consistent cooking. People pass these things down through generations, and buying one—while undoubtedly an investment—is incredibly worthwhile when you start to calculate the cost per use. The Dutch oven features a signature ombré finish, and comes in a variety of colors. Your Le Creuset color can be a character and kitchen decor defining choice, so think carefully. (Just kidding. Sort of.) And with so much talk about the Dutch oven, it’s easy to forget that Le Creuset makes a full and diverse range of high quality kitchen equipment, bakeware, stainless steel pots and pans, and tableware as well.
Green Pan
Green Pan is a reliable name in the ceramic nonstick cookware space. They have consistently topped our tests of the best ceramic nonstick pans, and are always updating and innovating their product line to make the products tougher and longer-lasting. Most recently, they collaborated with Stanley Tucci to create a special line of pans, which won over writer Emily Farris. While those pans are unfortunately not on sale for Prime Day, plenty of other GreenPan sets are!
Caraway
You’ll probably recognize Caraway pans from Instagram. The direct-to-consumer brand makes stylish ceramic nonstick cookware, sheet pans, bakeware and storage containers. Several of their cookware sets are available at a substantial discount for Prime Day.
Calphalon
Calphalon is a good affordable alternative for those looking for stainless steel cookware who aren’t quite ready to make the investment in a full All-Clad set. A Calphalon stainless steel cookware set is a great way to outfit a new kitchen with the necessary basics. These pans are hardy enough to put in plenty of years of dedicated service. Don’t sleep on their bakeware set either.
Baking Sheets Galore
No this is not one particular brand, but baking sheets (aka sheet pans) get a lot of use at BA, and so having them on hand is sort of…mandatory? At least, it is if you want to fill your life with soy-dressed sheet-pan gnocchi, charred Aleppo pepper chicken and broccolini, and innumerable stacks of brown butter chocolate chip cookies.
